2027 wedding trends, read from a Brooklyn rooftop

Oct 30, 2026  ·  Journal

The 2027 wedding trends point toward longer weekends, rooms that feel like someone's home, food guests get up for and a smaller, closer vendor team. A rooftop with a hotel underneath it is built for most of that. Box House Events runs a 10,000 sq ft rooftop with a retractable roof above The Box House Hotel at 77 Box Street in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, so the ceremony, the reception, the after party and the next morning's brunch can all happen in one building. Our marketing lead, Micaela Erickson, sits on The Knot's 2027 Trends Vendor Council and joined the panel that presented the report to the press in Manhattan on October 27.

What are the biggest wedding trends for 2027?

The Knot named 20 trends for 2027, built on search, save and spend data from 1.7 million U.S. couples and checked by its Trends Vendor Council. Here are the ones that matter most for a rooftop wedding, with what each one looks like at Box House. All figures are year-over-year search growth from The Knot 2027 Wedding Trends Report, published September 2026, as reported in The Knot's release.

How do you plan a three-day wedding weekend in one building?

You stop moving guests between venues. The Knot found that nearly 1 in 3 weddings already span three days or more, and the hard part of a long weekend is usually logistics: shuttles, keys, timing and tired guests. At Box House, a Friday welcome drink can happen at the Brooklyn Lantern, the hotel's bar and restaurant on the ground floor, the wedding happens on the roof on Saturday, and the after party or Sunday brunch moves back downstairs, where the Lantern seats 50.

Guests sleep in the same building or close by. Room blocks run across The Box House Hotel, the Henry Norman Hotel and the Franklin Guesthouse, all in Greenpoint. For the full schedule, read our wedding weekend itinerary and how a hotel block for wedding guests works.

Can the ceremony and the reception happen in the same place?

Yes, and on this rooftop they do. The Knot's report describes couples treating each part of the wedding as its own moment, with its own look. At Box House the ceremony and reception share the rooftop: guests step into cocktail hour while the team resets the same space for dinner. Nobody changes floors or buildings, and the skyline stays in every photo.

The retractable roof is the weather plan. If it rains or turns cold, the roof closes and the climate control comes on, in the same room you planned, with the same floor plan. There is no tent and no backup layout to approve.

Is the Italian beach club trend realistic in Brooklyn?

For a summer date, it is closer than you would think. Searches for coastal Italian "beach club" weddings are up 315%, the biggest jump in The Knot's 2027 report. What that look needs is open air, long light and a bar that guests gather around, and the Box House rooftop has all three: the roof opens, the sliding glass windows pull back, and the wrap-around marble bar sits in the middle of the room.

The rest is styling: striped linens, citrus, a spritz menu, umbrellas for the cocktail hour. Plan on the roof being open for a June to September date, and keep the closed roof in your back pocket for the rest of the year.

How do you make a wedding venue feel like a home?

You bring the living room to the party. The Knot found couples choosing unconventional venues and styling them with residential details: table lamps, coffee table guestbooks, tasseled linens. A hotel is already halfway there. On the Box House rooftop, couples set up lounge corners with sofas and low tables so guests have somewhere to land besides their seat or the bar.

The same idea runs downstairs. The 2,500 sq ft penthouse sits directly beneath the rooftop, with two bedrooms, a full kitchen and bar and three wrap-around balconies, which makes it a getting-ready suite that photographs like a home rather than a hotel room.

Where do editorial wedding photos happen at Box House?

Start in the penthouse and work your way up. The Knot's report describes couples hiring for cinematic, documentary-style coverage rather than stiff posed photos. The penthouse balconies give you skyline light in the morning, the rooftop gives you Manhattan and Long Island City behind the ceremony and the first dance, and the Greenpoint streets around 77 Box Street give you brick, storefronts and a neighborhood that looks like New York rather than a ballroom.

Do you still need 13 vendors for a 2027 wedding?

Not if the venue covers most of them. The Knot found couples now work with an average of 13 local wedding professionals. Box House Events is all-inclusive: planners and designers, in-house catering by MADRE (MICHELIN-recognized), servers, a premium open bar, tables and chairs, flatware and glassware, votive candles, guest room blocks and day-of coordination. Sound, lighting and video come from Room 11 Productions, our in-house production team.

That leaves you choosing the people who make it personal: photographer, florist, music, attire. Fewer handoffs means fewer gaps, which matters more as weddings stretch across a whole weekend. Read more about planning an all-inclusive wedding at Box House or meet our team.

Downstairs at the Brooklyn Lantern, the hotel's restaurant and bar, which seats 50. The rooftop runs until midnight on Friday and Saturday and until 11pm Sunday to Thursday.
